13 Week Cash Flow Forecast Template, Google Sheets and Excel

A thirteen week cash flow sheet for a business that bills on invoices rather than card takings, built around weeks rather than months so a dip in the middle of a month still shows up on its own line.

What it looks like

Cover of 13 Week Cash Flow Forecast Template, Google Sheets and Excel
The Weekly Summary sheet: opening balance, money in, money out, net movement and closing balance for each of the thirteen weeks, with week 5's 1,425 dollar closing balance shaded red for falling under the minimum, and a line chart of the thirteen closing balances against that minimum below the table.
The Scenario sheet: three levers at the top for a percent cut to money in, a delay in weeks and one named payment switched off, then the week by week working that applies them, ending in the stressed closing balances shown beside the base case with the difference between them on its own line.
The Money In sheet: named income lines down the left, one column per week for thirteen weeks, an expected amount typed into the week it is due, and a thirteen week total for each line.

What it does

What you get

Six connected worksheets:

  • Start Here - the instructions, the color key, the Google Sheets import steps and the license.
  • Setup - your business name, the Monday the forecast starts, your opening bank balance and the minimum balance you want to keep. Four entries the rest of the file reads.
  • Money In - up to forty named income lines, one column per week for thirteen weeks, so you type an expected amount into the week you expect it rather than the month.
  • Money Out - the same shape for what goes out: rent, subscriptions, contractor payments, tax set aside, loan repayments, owner drawings, or whatever lines your business uses.
  • Weekly Summary - the spine of the file: opening balance, money in, money out, net movement and closing balance for each of the thirteen weeks, with the lowest balance and the first week it drops under your minimum both called out at the top, and a chart of the thirteen closing balances against that minimum.
  • Scenario - three levers for a worse week: less money in than planned, money in arriving late, and one named payment not arriving at all, with the resulting closing balances shown beside the base case.

You type each figure into the week you expect it. Every total, closing balance and scenario figure is a formula, so a changed figure moves all thirteen weeks with it. There are 435 formulas in the file and not one typed in total.

Who it is for

A freelancer, contractor or single owner business that bills on invoices and wants to see the weeks ahead, not the year ahead. It suits an operation that can name its main income and outgoing lines by hand, up to forty of each.

It is not built for a business that wants its bank account connected directly, or its invoices entered without any typing. If either of those is you, this file is not the right tool.

What it is not

This is not accounting software. It does not connect to a bank or a card, and it does not import a statement. You type each figure in yourself, as your own expectation for that week.

It calculates nothing beyond adding up what you type. Every total, closing balance and scenario figure is arithmetic on numbers you typed in, added up week by week. It does not predict what your business will do, and it is not a guarantee of any result.

It is not financial advice. It is not investment advice. Nothing here sets your prices or your spending, or tells you how to run your business.
